They were brought new as greenware then cleaned and detailed then they are fired after that they are called "bisque" ready for painting :) sometimes after all the cleaning and detailing they can explode when fired and all your hard work goes up in smoke :( We had a small biz selling plaster figurines of all shapes and sizes on the gold coast (tourist spot in Qld)
