Nice work.... I don't know if you tried it, but duplicating your background layer and changing the blending mode in your layers palette to "Screen" on that second layer is a one-step method of totally lightening up your image. Of course you can tweak further, but the Screen does a beautiful job of lightening in itself.

It's amazing what the camera can see and what digital can capture, even in the near-dark. Good job lifting out all that detail.
